PORT STEPHENS COUNCIL...

 is located about 180km north of Sydney, NSW. The Council manages nine Cemetery Facilities (including Memorial Walls and Gardens).

Council's Cemeteries and Memorial Gardens are not as large as some facilities but are designed to be part of the community. They range from quiet rural settings to more traditional urban cemeteries. Council aims to provide adequate and appropriate places for internment and quiet remembrance.

HOW THE COMMUNITY CAN BECOME INVOLVED

Council always welcomes community input and where there is significant community interest consideration is given to establishing 355B committees of Council.

Two groups have been formed.

West Ward Cemeteries Committee

Ø        The committee holds regular working bees and provides assistance to the community on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day

Ø        The group is looking to form Friends of the Cemeteries group/s at Seaham & Hinton. People are advised of planned activities and can participate as they wish.

 Anna Bay Lawn Cemetery Committee

Ø        Is made up of members from the local community.

Ø        The aim of the Committee is to create a cemetery with a park look. The Committee has commenced a beautification program.

 Located on the edge of Boomerang Park, Raymond Terrace Cemetery is an urban cemetery with a traditional cemetery layout.

Seaham Cemetery

Off Wighton Street, Seaham

Ø      Burial Plots

Located in the heart of rural Seaham this small cemetery is a quiet little known area for internment and quiet remembrance.  A traditional cemetery layout with a mix of new graves and others dating back to last century.

Karuah Cemetery

Pacific Highway, Karuah

Ø        Burial Plots

Ø        Columbarium Wall

Cemetery is a mixture of old and new graves highlighting the continuity of life over a long period.  Work undertaken by the local community marks it local value and heritage.

Anna Bay Lawn Cemetery

Nelson Bay Road, Anna Bay

Ø        Lawn Cemetery burial plots with concrete beams for headstones

Anna Bay Lawn Cemetery features recumbered desk type headstones on the graves. To ensure the look of the lawn cemetery, trees, pot plants and fences are not allowed on or near graves.  Contact Maureen Balzer on 49 822036

Nelson Bay

Ø        Only available for existing Reservations

This cemetery set in bushland offers an insight into life and burials earlier this century.

BUSHLAND MEMORIAL GARDENS & WALLS

Carumbah Memorial Gardens

Stockton Street, Nelson Bay

Ø      A quiet bushland setting overlooking Nelson Bay

 Ashes can be interred in

Ø        Three columbarium Walls

Ø        Bushland Gardens

 Located in a quiet bushland setting high above Nelson Bay.  Plaques can be placed for remembrance even if ashes are scattered.  A quiet peaceful location to remember loved ones.

Pioneer Hill

Elizabeth Street, Raymond Terrace

Ø        Dating back to 1840’s

 Located on the edge of Boomerang Park gravestones date back to 1840. A popular spot for family tree and historical investigators.

Hinton Pioneer Cemetery

Paterson Road, Hinton

Ø        A must for those interested in local heritage

Birubi Point Cemetery

Ocean Ave, Birubi Point

Ø        Overlooking the ocean at Birubi Point

Ø        Offering a spectacular view and a piece of history

The scene of many shipwrecks the graves of unknown sailors make this a historical treat.
