FAQ Home Locating Deceased People

Where are records kept of cemeteries that no longer exist?
If the cemetery/crematoria is known but no longer exists, you could seek assistance from any, or all, of the following who may be able to help:

-

Local Council

-

Parish Church

-

Historical Society

-

State Library - Family History Section (Ph: 02 9273 1414)

If the cemetery/crematoria is unknown, then contact the Registrar of Birth Deaths and Marriages in NSW (Ph:  1300 655 236  Web: www.bdm.nsw.gov.au ) where you can apply for a copy of the Death Certificate of the family member you are looking for.  This certificate shows all the details of the deceased at the time of death including the place of burial or cremation.

If the death occurred 30 years ago or more, you can search the Family History section of this site located at:  http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/howToSearch.htm.
