CCANSW ONE DAY WORKSHOP
COMPACTING BACKFILL IN GRAVES

The Cemeteries & Crematoria Association of New South Wales will conduct a one-day workshop to discuss and assess the merits of compacting backfill in graves. The venue was chosen because Cessnock City Council has been compacting for some time and has achieved excellent results. The cemeteries personnel at Cessnock is pleased to share their experience.

Cessnock City Council cemeteries personnel (Paul Job) will speak on the results being achieved by compacting fill in graves It is hoped a spokesperson from Canberra Cemeteries Trust will attend – the Trust has been compacting graves for some time. Kevin Coburn will speak about the implementation and excellent results being achieved at Sandgate Cemetery, Newcastle. Kevin is the manager at Sandgate, where compaction has been used for over a year. Lilydale Cemetery in Victoria will make material available for presentation “Workcover NSW” has been asked to provide a spokesperson. |
Anyone having a direct supervisory or active role in the backfilling of graves! They will probably have a positive views about using compaction methods, but are undecided about their implementation. This may be due to cost and/ or workplace culture factors.
