Swedish coffins are getting too big for crematoriums. Swedish Radio News reports that as the average weight of Swedes continues to rise, so does the width of their coffins when they die. But now they are getting too broad to fit into cremation furnaces here. The most common Swedish coffin is 60 centimeters wide and two meters long. While there are no specific statistics, the Fonus funeral parlor chain says they are making around 300 coffins a year with special measurement. But any that are wider than 90 centimeters wide won’t fit into an ordinary Swedish cremation furnace. To meet the new demand, a new crematorium is being built in Malmö which can accept coffins up to one meter wide.
