Noosa residents oppose crematorium development
SMOKE, traffic congestion and the sight of a cremator close to residential areas are some of the concerns Noosaville residents have with a proposed funeral home and crematorium on the Noosa Christian Outreach Centre site, according to the Noosa Journal.
The church has applied for development approval for the business to be established on a section of their Eumundi-Noosa Rd property, to be leased to Sunshine Coast funeral home operator Gregson and Weight.
The proposed funeral home would be built near the entrance to the land, with an existing food co-op and op shop to be relocated elsewhere on the church’s 2ha site. The funeral home would operate Monday to Friday, with an occasional Saturday service, with up to 150 funerals a year. Noosaville resident James Grant said some residents would be about 120m from the crematorium. ``This is right at the gateway to Noosa where we have the biggest traffic bottleneck and they want to bring a funeral cortege to that,’’ he said. ``We do not need to add the obvious visual negative aspects of such an enterprise to what is an already quasi-industrial complex so close to us.
