Residents take Greendale crematorium fight to council
More on the Greenacre crematorium from the Liverpool Leader this morning. According to the Leader, the State Government has said it is powerless to stop a crematorium going ahead on Greendale Rd. At a community cabinet meeting in Leumeah on Monday night, Premier Barry O’Farrell and Minister for Planning Brad Hazzard told Greendale Rd residents they were unable to intervene, despite describing the situation as “lousy”.
Residents fighting a Joint Regional Planning Panel decision to approve a crematorium being built in their street packed the meeting, pleading with the ministers for help.
Greendale Rd property owner Duncan McDonald told the cabinet the street had been besieged by five proposals for crematoriums, cemeteries and monasteries.
Mr Hazzard said the situation was a “mess”.
Residents said they would now turn to Liverpool Council for help funding an appeal against the panel decision in the Land and Environment Court.
