WORKS are currently underway at the Mount Isa Cemetery as part of a $70000 beautification project. Fifty per cent of the total project cost have been funded by the State Government to return the cemetery to the original condition following the bats departure.
Mayor John Molony said he had 10 staff on site for a seven-day period to complete the work.
"They will remove broken branches, cut and mulch the grass, whipper snip the edges and wash down the bat residue," he said.
The old cemetery will receive improvements as part of the project including resurfacing to the conventional section of the cemetery with 20 millimetres of river stone.
