Court rejects crematorium proposal
The NSW Land and Environment Court has knocked back controversial plans for a crematorium at Faulconbridge, according to this report in the Blue Mountains Gazette
Commissioner Dixon and Assistant Commissioner Johnson yesterday (Tuesday) dismissed an appeal by The Carrick Group P/L against Blue Mountains City Council’s decision to refuse its development application (DA) to change the use of a motor showroom to a funeral home and crematorium on the Great Western Highway site.
Councillors comprehensively rejected the DA in a unanimous vote last September, with most acknowledging the need for such services in the area but stating the development was proposed for the wrong location.
Opponents had raised concerns over traffic, parking, noise and health, however supporters publicly praised the applicant and outlined reasons why the development should go ahead.
