Ashes to unclaimed ashes: call for new disposal code
Relatives might be too old or ill. Many find it too traumatic, suggests Tom Sweeney, community relations officer at Macquarie Park Crematorium, who says about a third of ashes were never picked up.
But Max Perram, a funeral director for 40 years, is more blunt. "They don't care, most of them," he says.
