Bath and North East Somerset Council is reportedly updating Haycombe Crematorium by fitting new carpets, replacing the seats and installing a more up-to-date sound system. The cross on one window will also be taken down as a by-product of the refurbishment and a new "mobile" one will be brought in.

Councillor David Dixon (Lib Dem, Oldfield), the authority's cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said the idea was to provide the best possible service for people of all faiths and religious beliefs.

He said: "Whatever your religion or non-religion, we have to run a crematorium for everybody.

"The mobile cross is something which can be brought out if people want to use it, so there will still be a cross available."
