Faulconbridge Locals fight against Crematorium

The Penrith Press Live reports about a FAULCONBRIDGE residents action group is fighting a development application to build a crematorium 31m from homes. The proposal is currently before the Blue Mountains Council.

The proposed site is at 435-437 Great Western Highway and surrounding it are homes, restaurants, businesses and Faulconbridge Public School.

The group says the plan disregards the Crematorium Association’s environmental guideline of a “200m buffer zone” between an emissions stack and residents.

Within this distance, action group member and Faulconbridge resident Katie McRobert said cremations would pose a health risk and cause traffic problems.

A council spokeswoman said the evaluation process of the application was under way after the public notification period ended last Friday. She said she could not provide specific details of the development’s potential impact until the evaluation was completed.
