Faulconbridge crematorium plans rejected

Controversial plans for a crematorium at Faulconbridge were comprehensively rejected last night (Tuesday) by Blue Mountains City Council, according to the Blue Mountains Gazette.

Touted by the city's new mayor Daniel Myles as the "defining issue of ward 3", councillors voted unanimously to reject plans by the Carrick Group Pty Ltd for a change of use from a motor showroom to funeral home and crematorium at the Great Western Highway site following recommendations by council staff.

It was standing room only in the council chamber as opponents packed the public gallery to hear debate on the issue, wearing anti-crematorium T-shirts and armed with signs.
