CandleMedia Release from Shoalhaven  City Council:

Shoalhaven City Council will hold its annual Children’s Remembrance Service on the 16th of December 2010.

While Christmas is a time of celebration for most, especially children, it is a sadly emotional time for those who have suffered the loss of a child. Shoalhaven City Council recognises that the sadness bereaved families might feel is especially pronounced at this time of the year and so, in the hope of providing comfort and fellowship, is pleased and privileged to be able to again sponsor The Annual Children’s Remembrance Service in the Chapel at the Shoalhaven Memorial Gardens & Lawn Cemetery, Worrigee Road, Worrigee on the 16th December. The Service will commence at 6:30pm.

Shoalhaven Mayor Clr. Paul Green, who will attend, said, “This is a very special occasion, bringing people who have lost young relatives and friends together. The ceremony helps us to remember all children who have passed away in a caring environment where emotions and feelings can be expressed and shared with others who have had similar experiences.” The service also provides an opportunity to donate toys to the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Appeal.

Local civil celebrant Robyn Lenehan will be conducting the order of service. Candles, each named for a child that has passed away, will be lit to mark the event.

Light refreshments will be served in the Reflection’s Café after the service and will provide an opportunity for everyone to share their experience and participate in a little fellowship. Everyone is welcome, but bookings are essential.

Please contact the Shoalhaven Bereavement Services office on 02 44216355 between 8:30am and 4:30pm weekdays or visit the http://bereavement.shoalhaven.nsw.gov.au web site and follow the links.
