Rookwood Cemetery: Hidden Sculpture Walk 2011

Posted by: Administrator
With the support of Arts NSW, the Anglican and General Cemetery Trusts have partnered with Auburn City Council and Sydney Olympic Park Authority to create Hidden: A Rookwood Sculpture Walk 2011.

Hidden is an on-site sculpture exhibition revealing artists’ responses to Rookwood, the largest cemetery in the Southern Hemisphere. Rookwood is a place rich in heritage, history and culture, its beauty and splendour distinctive. With a thought provoking subject, Hidden invites audiences to explore the iconic site whilst admiring the 36 evocative works that feature amongst the graves. These works address themes appropriate to the site, such as grief, loss, memory, death, mourning, spirituality, religion and heritage as well as the culture around memorial, eulogy, burial and ceremony. This year’s exhibition also features a new media work in the All Souls Chapel.
