Queensland Criminal Code changes approved
State Parliament has passed changes to the Queensland Criminal Code limiting the use of provocation as a defence for murder and imposing tougher penalties on people who damage graves. Queensland Attorney-General Paul Lucas says the legislation introduces changes making it easier to prosecute people caught damaging gravestones and war memorials. A new offence called 'interfering with a grave' was introduced after the courts dismissed a case against four people accused of causing damage at a Brisbane cemetery.
