Wisemans Ferry Cemetery to be restored

Wisemans Ferry Cemetery, which contains the graves of some of the Hawkesbury River region’s earliest settlers including Solomon and Jane Wiseman, will be restored by Hornsby Shire Council, who have received a $30,000 grant from the NSW Planning Department.

The gravestones, many of which are damaged, will be expertly repaired by heritage specialists using fibreglass rods and adhesives.

The headstones will be carefully cleaned to remove dirt and algal growth.

“Wisemans Ferry Cemetery is a highly significant site largely untouched by development,” said council’s manager of Bushland and Biodiversity, Diane Campbell.
