Bathurst City Council denies prison workforce claims

chain gang Further to the story about allegations councils are using Corrective Services inmates to do work usually done by council employees, the Corrective Services Commissioner, Ron Woodham, has suspended all inmate work programs in Bathurst and Tamworth because of concerns prisoners are doing work ordinarily carried out by paid council staff.

Bathurst Mayor Paul Toole says he is confident the council has always kept to the guidelines for work release programs.
