Can relatives witness the cremation?

Yes.  This is done from a viewing room at the crematorium, where, by arrangement, people may attend the committal of the coffin or casket into the cremator.  Not all crematoriums provide a viewing room, so you will need to check with the crematorium/funeral director to ascertain whether viewing is available.
