The Cemetery Safety Course trains on best practices for graveyard maintenance, including grave preparation, soil conditions, trench safety, exhumations, mausoleum procedures, and dealing with workplace grief. The course also covers legislation, health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and working in confined spaces. Enrolment costs vary for members and non-members, with certain conditions for free registrations. Delivered in-person by Fiona Hurst of Footprint Training as a CCANSW customised course.


The Course

The Cemetery Safety Course provides industry best practice and gives understanding in:

Grave Preparation
  • Aesthetics/presentation
Soil Conditions and Shoring Requirements
  • Considerations for different soil types
  • Shoring requirements and options, pros and cons of different equipment
Trench Collapse and Consolidation
  • Management of a collapse
Exhumation
  • Regulations and requirements
  • Biological hazards and controls
Mausoleum
  • Preparing and reinstating vaults or crypts
  • Regulations and requirements
Dealing with Grief in the Workplace
  • Techniques for dealing with people with mental health issues
  • Techniques for dealing with people affected by alcohol or drugs in the workplace
Legislation
  • Employer and employee responsibilities
  • Best practice for following work health and safety procedures
  • Risk assessments
Working in Confined Spaces
  • Is the space a confined space?
  • Regulations and requirements

 

COURSE DETAILS

Dates: Monday 20 April & Tuesday 21 April 2026

Time: 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day

Format: This is an in-person event only

 

Cost:

  • CCANSW Category A Member:  Free for the first 2 registrations for this course from a financial CCANSW Category A member 
  • CCANSW Member: $840 per person (for Category B members or additional registrations)
  • Non Members: $1,260 per person

Trainer: Fiona Hurst - Footprint Training

Course Delivery: This is an official CCANSW training course, using the services of a qualified facilitator.  The course has been customised for CCANSW requirements, with relevant industry scenarios.

Cancellation & Refunds: Registration cancellations must be received, via email to the CCANSW Secretariat, prior to course commencement (5 days for face-to-face sessions and 3 days for online sessions) Thereafter, no refunds will apply or loss of the free registration will occur, whichever applies. Substitute delegates will be accepted without penalty.
